“Of course, it didn’t help that every time I stepped into the car, I had a racing helmet on, a pair of aviators and would crank to full volume ‘The Danger Zone’ by Kenny Logins on the little red Excel’s stereo system.”

I could describe myself normally. Or I could do this In the beginning, there was nothing Then, the powers that be took the best parts of themselves, and fashioned it into a single egotistical and overly mature teenager. And the powers that be called him Carl. And all rejoiced. Sort of. To put it candidly, I’m the product of the console generation, an overly excited gamer/actor/performance artist/writer, sometimes philosopher. With entertainment so deeply entrenched in my psyche, gaming is second nature. Being an insomniac extraordinaire, happy endorphins are pumped through my veins every two seconds to ensure optimum gaming focus (unfortunately, owing to the excess of game playing, I don’t blink much anymore). When I’m not laughing at something, I’m trying to make others laugh, and if not successful, will try and make myself laugh, via reminiscing about humorous anecdotes, funny voices or osmosis (the net movement of water across a partially permeable membrane from a region of high solvent potential to an area of low solvent potential, up a solute concentration gradient). Single sentence description? A gamer so strange even the voices inside my head don’t want to talk to me.

What is your most memorable gaming experience?
Walking out of my local Electronics Boutique with the first Playstation 3 sold. There are not many moments like that. Slowly walking past a never-ending line of gamers with the one thing they waited until midnight to receive? Priceless ... no, wait, it cost $1000.

Where would you be found on a typical Friday night?
Playing games. Or probably at the movies with my mates. Or writing one of my unreleased novels. Or imagining what it would be like if I was dressed in a bear suit in public. That’d be cool.

What is your favourite movie?
The Rocky Horror Picture Show

What is your favourite food?
Chocolate chip muffin ... the cravings never stop.

What is your favourite drink?
A nice, cold bottle of delicious Cheery Cheer.

What are your favourite 5 games of all time, and why?
  • Metal Gear Solid 3 : Astounding graphics, exciting bosses, and a surprise twist at the end that honesty had me muttering in shock for the entire week after I finished it. Snake? SSSSSNNNNNNAAAAAAAKKKKKEEEEEE............
  • Spyro the Dragon 3 : Before Playstation 2, Spyro was my secret passion. I could not have enough of this tiny purple dragon, whatever he did. Great cast of characters and platforming fun.
  • Bust a Groove : Pure. Gaming gold. There’s something about pulling a seven button combo and feeling the rhythm pulse through your veins. I’m here to bust this groove!
  • Final Fantasy IX : The very first Final Fantasy I ever played, I have a soft spot for this often overlooked role playing game. Sporting an old story fantasy story, with a colorful cast of characters and the most discs I’ve ever seen for a single game, this was one fantastic fantasy!
  • Burnout 3 : Words cannot describe what I would do for this game. I hated any sort of racing game, until I stumbled across this game at a bargain bin price. And then, bliss. Takedown Rampage! 162 Takedowns in a single Road Rage! I love you, Burnout 3!
