“I certainly never thought it while playing the game, but maybe that's just because I'm racist and I thought it was entirely fair that scary black men were trying to get me ... it's just like back at camp.”

australian gamer profile: Romi

Nickname: Romi
Real Name: Romi Olive
Xbox Live:
PSN Code:
Wii Friend:
Occupation: Assistant Producer
City/State: Brisbane, Queensland

Romi is no longer a member of the AustralianGamer.com team.

Romi loves hosting parties and showing people a good time – which often includes delicious banquets, cartons of beer, drunken karaoke and now thanks to the Wii, drunken boxing. Four years ago, she stumbled upon the fact that people actually get paid to make games and today, she has been luckily bestowed with a shiny black whip and the opportunity to work with some of Australia’s great dev talent. Her other peculiar habits include belly dancing, martial arts, singing along to heavy metal and making new friends. Aww.

What is your most memorable gaming experience?
Playing with my Wii ;)
Seriously though, the Wii really delivers an innovative and fresh new approach to console gaming and I’ll always remember the very time that I held the remotes in my hands and punched wildly at the air in a really engaging boxing match - ah, the sweet smell of Wii... I mean victory.

Where would you be found on a typical Friday night?
Playing games, making games, entertaining friends (which usually involves games)

What is your favourite movie?
I really love Children of Men, it’s a very graphical and inspirational film.

What is your favourite food?
Ice-cream, chocolate, strawberries... chocolate dipped strawberries with ice-cream…

What is your favourite drink?
Hot – A yummy hot chocolate with marshmallows
Cold – A caramel flavoured frappe

What are your favourite 5 games of all time, and why?
  • Gears of War : It’s the only game that really scares me! And I really love the gameplay.
  • Guitar Hero 2 : Because making music and playing games has to be the best combination ever.
  • Mario Kart DS : Absolute portable fun, especially in multiplayer.
  • The Sims 2 : It’s a virtual dollhouse that satisfies all my feminine soapie needs, minus the TV.
  • Monkey Island Series : Three words; classic adventure comedy.
