The Apple iPhone finally gets a review in, with GameLoft's Dungeon Hunter being the first (but certainly not last) iPhone title title to get covered. By special guest reviewer: the Incarnation of Adventure.

I am the Incarnation of Adventure. Year by year I travel from one anventure to another, each a new body, a new form. I have travelled far and wide, I have lived on platforms from the SNES to the latest PCs, always seeking the greatest adventure, the most epic journey.

With my latest incarnation I found myself in this "eye phone" device. I must say that my heart was torn with grief. A phone?! Surely you jest! The Spirit of True Adventure can not abide on a mere PHONE, no matter how shiny it may be. Phones are obviously suited only to womanish persuits, the likes of Peggle or Tetris.

This adventure started where most end. With my death. More specifically, my death at the hands of a traitorous woman, as if there is any other kind. At the moment our vows were concluded my betrothed (and so briefly wife) plunged a knife into my chest! The regicidal bitch, now openly flaunting her foul sorceries, usurped my kingdom. Steadily she began to ruin it, her dark magicks corrupting and enlaving. Months later and my moldering body is the unexpected benefactor of the necromantic arts. I live again! Given this chance to right the wrongs done in my absence I stride forth, barely equipped, and begin to do battle!

The beginning contains regular cutscenes, such as this

So begins this latest adventure. But what did the journey hold? In truth, not much more than one had seen before. Diablo and Dungeon Siege, this adventure is one that could be generously described as "familiar". Is this a bad thing? I say nay! Rather let it be seen as a welcome return to the best of times, the simple spirit of the greatest of action RPG.

Right from the beginning one is lovingly basted in classic adventure, as one chooses from the standard fare of Rogue, Warrior or Mage. Of course, I'm no backstabbing sneak thief or dress wearing Sodomite, so naturally I was a warrior.

Big Zappy magic, as provided by a fairy

I should say that my misgivings were unfounded. This new "eye phone" is a surprisingly adequate platform, even for my grand adventures. Always could I see clearly my surroundings, and getting around proved nary a problem. My magick and attacking skills did crackle with thier accostomed vigour.

At a mere 9 gold any persons who owns one of these "eye phones" hast no excuses. For even the most niggardly of Adventurers this is a simple decision to make.

Summary

This isn't some little mobile game. The iPhone proves it's a competent gaming platform. It's only $8.99 for the sort of game you'd pay $70 for on the PSP. U bai nao.

Pros

Great graphics. A lot of fun to play. Impressive scope and story. Polished and slick.

Cons

May not run as smoothly on older iPhones. Control not always perfect. Using skills often accidentally switches them. Saving is of near enough. Quest details sometimes unclear. The name - seriously, Dungeon Hunter?
