WWE Survivor Series Tour of Australia 2008 Interview

Interview from Cav - Sunday, 06 January 2008 @ 10:24am

I was lucky enough to be invited by our good friends at THQ Australia, to meet with some of the Superstars of World Wrestling Entertainment on their recent tour. I arrived in plenty of time and had a quick look at the THQ Marquee, which had the yet to be released WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 game available to play on “The Big Three”, but yours truly had already had a play at GAME1 earlier in the day, so I decided to stand aside and let the ever-growing crowds flood the tent. To kill a bit of time before the event, I made a quick trip to the merchandise tent to grab a Tour Hat and Stubby Holder (it’s a ritual of mine) as well as a Tour T-Shirt. My wife and I waited patiently, to the side, out of the sun, for Drew from THQ to take us through for my interview. Actually my wife, Chrissy, was patient, I sat there cursing myself for leaving my notepad and silver and black markers in my car. If anyone has read my first paragraph of GAME1 review, you will realise what kind of day I had gone through already! But I did have my Sony Audio recorder with me at least!

Drew showed up and took us through to the media room. While waiting, Drew actually gave me a sneak peak at an Xbox 360 console which was airbrushed and signed by all of the Superstars on the tour. The console was to be presented to the winner of a competition in ZOO Magazine during the night’s performance. I wiped the drool form the corner of my mouth as he packed it away. A Red Bull and a quick Parking Lot Brawl match on the Xbox360 and the interviews were about to begin. Leaving the best to last, I got to have a few words with Raw Superstars Lance Cade and Trevor Murdock, just before they went back to their locker room to prepare for their match. Knowing that time was short and that these guys had been pounded for the last couple of day with repetitive questions, I knew, that as a representative of Australian Gamer, I had to ask the questions that were important to my readers:

Me and Tag Champs: (L-R) Lance Cade / CAV / Trevor Murdock

CAV: Greetings Guys, I’m Cav from Australian Gamer, just a couple of quick ones: Who is the biggest gaming nerd out of you two?

Lance Cade: (points to Trevor Murdock) This one.

Trevor Murdock: (raises hand, with a slight smile on his face)

CAV: Systems owned?

TM: PS2, PS3 and I should have a Wii sitting at the house right now.

CAV: Merry Christmas!

TM: Thank You

CAV: (Struggles to think of the word ‘Genre’) Favourite gaming type? Fighting? Shooting?

TM: Oh yeah, I’m always action when it comes to it. I’m a big Metal Gear Guy.

CAV: The new one is coming out, Four is looking good.

TM: And Guitar Hero III, I’m a big fan of Guitar Hero III.

CAV: I picked that up on the Wii yesterday

TM: (Laughs)

CAV: Now you have a Wii, you have to try it on that, it will be excellent. Next question: Are they as heavy as they look? Your belts?

TM: (Passing his World Tag Team Title belt to me) You tell me, brother?

CAV: (Surprised by its weight) Fwoar!

TM: That’s ten pounds of gold!

CAV: Now history has been great for the WWE, and it’s been bad, but what do you see for the future for the WWE?

LC: I’d say it’s nothing but positive. I mean this crew who you are going to see perform tonight, not just them but Smackdown and ECW as well, we have a great crew going forward. You know that out of 1000 guys you are going to get one or two bad seeds, but for the most part we have a great group of guys representing this company for years to come.

CAV: Guys thanks for your time, I know you have to go. Good Luck!

LC: Cool!

TM: Thanks!

From there we filed out to the main room where I got the opportunity to meet a few more WWE stars and score an autograph of two. Mickie James, the Highlanders and the great Hacksaw Jim Duggan were there to meet, with Hacksaw seeing us off with his trademark “HHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!” and a thumbs up salute. With the show about to start, I made it promptly to my seat, with my overpriced drink and soggy chips. I recommend seeing one of these shows just once if you are not a fan, just to see what it is all about. The atmosphere is awesome and the show and pyrotechnics are amazing.

Me and the Highlanders (L-R) Rory McAllister / CAV / Robbie McAllister

A big thank you to the guys at THQ Australia, namely Paul and especially Drew, for this great opportunity. Big props to the WWE Superstars and their efforts for the night too.
