We've been quietly on the hunt for the last month for fresh blood to join the AustralianGamer.com team of writers and contributors.
We've had over 60 applications so far, and have already decided on two people (who shall remain nameless for now). We still want more though. If you think you have what it takes to join our crew, hit the 'view full' link to read through the requirements and find out the benefits.
This is not a role for everyone, however, so please read through the following conditions and requirements carefully before you apply.
There are two things in particular we look for when adding someone new to the team. They are 'Writing ability' and 'Personality'.
Anyone who applies must have a high level understanding of the English language. Correct spelling and punctuation are essential. Application emails tend to be rejected immediately if we find basic grammar isn't adhered to. You should be proficient in creative writing, reporting, interviews, and be able to convey news and information in an informative and entertaining manner.
Which leads nicely into our personality requirement. You must have something that makes you stand out from the crowd. We are not a cookie cutter website that churns out gaming news and reviews - we are 100% personality driven, with content written that is unique to the individual. You must be able to convey your personality through your writing as well. We take an almost Gonzo approach to our reporting, however that is not a requirement.
Other requirements for potential applicants are as follows:
* Must be a resident of Australia
* Must be over the age of 18
* Must own at least three of the current relevant systems
(PS3, XB360, Wii, PS2, NDS, PSP, PC)
If you were to be chosen as one of the new team members, you would be required to contribute to the website and the community on a regular basis, and stay in consistent email / msn contact with Yug, Matt, and the rest of the team. You would also need to have a good knowledge of the AustralianGamer.com community and the history of the website.
You will need to provide game reviews of titles that have been sent to you no more than 2 weeks after you receive them (potentially more depending on the length of the game). You will need to finish a game before you can review it. We do not censor reviews, however you must be prepared to stand by your opinions and make sure you are factually correct at all times.
You should have an interest in sourcing and writing your own unique features, whether they be in-depth reports on the gaming industry or a regular series of commentary on certain issues. We allow an almost unlimited amount of freedom, and do not censor the content of our writers.
Ideally, you should be available on a regular basis to attend previews, functions and parties in your relevant city for upcoming games and events, and provide coverage of local gaming events and entertainment in your city.
As a team member you will have a cartoon avatar created for your character, receive admin status on the forums and the ability to post news on the front of the website. You’ll be given an AustralianGamer.com email address and depending on your availability a professional business card. You will be sent games to review and keep. You will be invited to exclusive gaming functions, parties and get-togethers, and receive invites to gaming previews and events.
If you think you might be interested in this position, please email yug - @ - australiangamer.com with an application email and a sample of a potential game review. Last time we received over 100 applications, so please don't take it personally if we do not choose you. We are specifically looking for perhaps 1 - 2 more staff members. We would specifically like people based in Adelaide or Sydney, but would certainly consider well qualified applicants from other locations.
