GenConOz this weekend!
News from Yug - Thursday, 03 July 2008 @ 2:14am

For more information about the event (including the un-official after party), click to see more ... We were actually at the convention centre tonight setting up, and while it seems like it should be a pretty good expo all round, there is a distinct lack of actual 'video games' there. There's QANTM College showcasing their wares, Queensland Games representing the local developers, Krome Studios showcasing their upcoming games Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Hellboy 2, and GameTraders with a bunch of plasmas and Guitar Hero. No doubt the most talked about event of the show isn't actually at the show, but is held after it. The 3rd Official Brisbane Gamers Meetup will be held, once again, at my place :)
On top of what you read in that flyer, we will also be giving away some sweet merch at the event, including 50 Grand Theft Auto IV collectible plastic cups, and 50 Guitar Hero T-Shirts.
So if you're in Brisbane, you really have no excuse NOT to catch up with us this weekend. Either way, I hope to see some of you guys soon!

Yo-- Yug being busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest, I am posting this with his graceful but distant and absent permission, much like a Greek God, he.
At the party there is going to be a first-ever tryout of a new game played on your mobile phone, which everyone can join. The game is run by Cipher Cities ( http://www.ciphercities.com ), a new Brisbane joint which makes mobile-game-making tools for the masses. I'm a local game designer, and on Yug's suggestion made a Cipher Cities game to be played at the party. I and one of the Cipher Cities devs will be at the party to see how it goes, and take notes and video. So if you have a mobile phone and can send text messages (or better yet you have mobile web access), sign up for the game! It should be fun, and it will help these Brissy developers make their mark. The more people who sign up, the merrier, so give it a go.
The game itself is really cruisy and super easy to play while partying. It takes no reflexes, and you don't need to go anywhere. It just involves checking your phone for messages and sending replies once in a while. It's kind of a bizarre interactive pub quiz. You can still chat and drink and whatever else while playing this.
To get ready for the game, just go to the link below now and follow the directions. You sign up for a Cipher Cities profile, including your mobile phone number, and sign up for the Party Quiz game. All that only takes a few minutes. Then just wait till you are at the party. At about 9PM there will be an announcement telling you when the game is starting.
Go here right away and follow the directions to sign up:

And tell your friends! The game is more fun and even easier if lots of people you know are playing.
If you have any questions or problems, I will deal with them; please don't bother poor Yug. (Send me email directly at "matthew at fordfam dot com".) Meanwhile, the website should explain it all. It should be pretty easy.
