48hr Game Challenge afternoon update

I’m now settled in relaxing in the 'Australian Gamer Press Room'; the sun is high and burning down on this beautiful cloudless spring day, shame nobody here is going to see any of it. We are all in here working on our Scottish tans and exercise the parts of our bodies that won’t impress the ladies, the nerd gland.

The mood here has lifted, people are now fresh and ready to work at a good pace for the day, some teams already worrying that they will finish their games too early! Coders are codin’ and artists are artin’ and a few guys are mixing beats and sounds. A giant countdown clock is being projected on the wall, casting an ominous glow over the crowd. Though I don’t think anybody is terribly phased at the moment.



But its not all unicorn hiccups and buttercup snuggle-kisses! Drama has come to the 48hr Game Challenge, in the form of a virus titled ‘Gay Sex Fetish’. Team Preemptive Revenge suffered this foul blow when a laptop’s firewall was turned off for networking purposes. This on top of 6 power failures due to a faulty power board was a hard blow. Ultimately the laptop was beyond saving and placed aside on top of a few sleeping bags and pillows. Luckily no code was lost in the incident.



We are almost at the 24-hour mark and impressively many of the participants still haven’t slept. I just checked out the sleep hole and only one person was in it, but we will see how utilized it will go later into the night.
