Transmission shifts to lower gear
News from Starks - Friday, 02 October 2009 @ 3:22pm
Excusing the horrible, horrible pun, it has been drawn to my attention that the Melbourne based development studio Transmission, best known for their work on Ashes Cricket 2009, has cut a third of its staff.
30 members of their team - primarily coders and remaining QA staff - were let go on Wednesday, the 30th of September, due to their inability to secure two specific publishing deals.
Edit by Yug: Removed the referrences to the specific games Transmission were working on for legal reasons, but needless to say I've gotten many emails from Transmission staff about the mass layoffs, and all I can say is I hope the guys are able to find work elsewhere ASAP.
As always, hit up Tsumea.com for the latest job listings, and I know there's a bunch of positions being offered up here in Brisbane at Sega Creative Assembly at the moment too.
Just don't go applying to work at Fuzzyeyes at the moment, the other breaking news is that the last of their staff have been laid off, most loosing out on months of pay :(

These things usually have less to do with games that are out, and more to do with games in development. From what I understand they had the rights to make a game based on an "undisclosed" movie IP, but for various legal reasons that all fell through. The result is that they have 30 people sitting around with nothing to do....there aren't a lot of options in those cases.
It doesn't really matter how well your last game sold if you have nothing to work on RIGHT NOW.
Bummer. I thought Ashes 2009 was selling pretty well, wasn't it in the top 10 for a while? Me and my mates like it.
