Transmission Games stops transmitting

News from Yug - Wednesday, 21 October 2009 @ 2:33pm

Reports are flooding in and insiders are reporting that Transmission Games, local Melbourne developer of titles such as the recently released Ashes Cricket 2009 and Heroes over Europe, has gone into recievership and all staff have been made redundant.

Although the writing may have been on the wall a few weeks ago when we reported layoffs of a significant number of staff, there was hope that some high profile game development deals may have salvaged things, although that obviously doesn't seem to be the case.

Estimates are that the studio had about 70 staff left after the layoffs a few weeks ago - that's a SHITLOAD of talented game developer professionals that are now, quite suddenly, out of a job.

I would suggest to any of the guys looking for work to keep your eye's peeled to Tsumea.com, the best source for jobs in the Australian game development industry, and perhaps have a look into the new grant by the Victorian Government of up to $75,000 for digital media projects.

I'm also going to fire a few emails off to the developers I have contacts with to see if they might have additional positions for talented ex-Transmission staff.

Update: Apparently the studio had 80 people initially, then were down to 50 after the first round of redundancies, and those final 50 were let go after the studio was put into voluntary liquidation today.

Doesn't surprise me at all, we've been waiting for this to happen for quite some time. I just hope the people now without jobs can find work soon.

I also feel bad for all the kids at AIE graduating this year. IR Gurus/Transmission used to take a BIG chunk of graduates (sometimes the entire group of graduates) and give them jobs. Now it's going to be much harder for these kids to find work.
