Friday the 13th hits Krome Studios

News from Yug - Friday, 13 November 2009 @ 3:50pm

I'm getting alot of emails from people that worked at Krome Studios up until today. Which is to say, they don't anymore. Rumour is that Krome Studios Brisbane has had about 20 - 30 redundancies today, with others being let go from Krome Melbourne as well. I tried calling Krome for an official comment, but it seems most of the people there have knocked off for the rest of the day. Wonder why.

Geezus Fucking Christ, is there some force that's trying to wipe out the Australian game development industry? Any Kromers looking for work I recommend reading this post I made about 3 weeks ago where Morgan Jaffit gives some advice to those who have been made redundant, and lists all the developers I could find who are currently advertising jobs - that was 3 weeks ago, hard to say how many of those positions have been filled since Transmissions Games closure.

Yeah it'll be another 2 years till I'm out looking for work so hopefully things will have righted by then. I feel so sorry for everyone graduating now though...

Though I hope by the time you're finished at uni the climate is a little different. Chin up!

Yeah, just imagine those that finished this year or are going to finish next year Fuck.

Looks like I'm moving into education for a while :P

As someone who is just leaving his job in an effort to get in to the Games Industry (heading back to uni) this is NOT good news... Maybe I should stay where I am! *gulp*

In all seriousness, I'd recommend it. :P For a little while anyway. There have been a whole bunch of redundancies lately and the market is flooded with people with more qualifications and experience than you.

Sorry to hear about the redundancies guys. My housemate worked for Red Tribe and was made redundant a few weeks ago, so I've seen how it affects people.

Hope things pick up soon.
