Stargate Just Around The Corner

Stargate fans have been waiting years for a video game based on the widely popular franchise. In less then a week we can expect the very first official Stargate game to be available worldwide.... I don't think it has MacGyver in it though :(

It hasn't been an easy task for developers to get a Stargate game off the ground. At one stage some Australians were having a crack at it but that eventually fell through and the game was cancelled.
Since then Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment have been tackling the task with not one, but two Stargate video games. The first is a game that has been in development for the past 4 years, it is an MMO titled Stargate Worlds. Being released very soon however is Stargate Resistance, a team based FPS powered by the Unreal 3 engine.

On FEBRUARY 10TH, 2010 FireSky will be releasing the first Stargate PC shooter ever to come to market! "I want to personally thank everyone for their enthusiasm and support. It's incredibly exciting to be releasing our first game as a studio, especially with such a great license," said Shane Hensley, President of the Studio. In this fast-paced 3rd person shooter, gamers will have the chance to be either Stargate Command or the System Lords as they use the Stargate to travel and battle for galactic dominance.

Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment have been in some financial troubles recently so i think the release of this game is to help them get back on track and keep working with the MMO.

Stargate Resistance will be avaiable worldwide from the Direct2Drive website for $19.99 ($USD)

If you are going to grab this game let us know on the forums so we can try to setup a few Australian matches.

The media for both these games crush my hopes of ever seeing a good Stargate game.

I'll be honest, it wouldn't have been a groundbreaking game by any means, but I reckon it would have got itself at least solid 7/10's as a slightly-above average licensed FPS. We had some interesting mechanics in the game as well as squad-based AI commands that worked really well, it looked quite good for a last-gen game, plus all of the actors from the TV show reprised their roles in the game...even Walter the Chevron Guy was in it.

I won't hijack the thread, so if you want to know more about it shoot me a PM.

Believe me though, it sucked for us too when the plug was finally pulled. Not nice being part of a mass redundancy. I spent 18 months on that project.

This new one isnt going to be anything ground breaking either, im sure the Alliance game would have been much better.... This appears to just be something they quickly churned out judging by the videos. But im still keen to give it a try.
