Luke sat down with a few of the guys from Eidos Montreal, to take a quick look at some of the awesome things they have been doing with Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

The original Deus Ex received high critical praise amongst the PC gaming community, and with that it also solidified itself as one of the best video games ever made. Now Eidos Montreal have accepted the challenge to deliver a greater gaming experience with Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Set more than two decades before Deus Ex, Human Revolution sees you take control of the protagonist Adam Jensen who, after being caught in the middle of a terrorist attack within his company, is seriously injured and forced to adopt biomechanical augmentations in order to survive. Players will progress through the story visiting a number of different locations during the game - the ones we were shown looked fantastic. The environments were filled with great detail, especially off in the far distance; they've really worked to see the player immersed in the world and create a sense of life outside of the area of play.

The main point that the developers were really keen to show us was the different ways in which Adam can approach a level. We were taken through the same scenario a few times; each was played out differently in terms of how to reach your end objective. Our particular mission involved Adam infiltrating a police station, and obtaining some hardware located in the morgue.

The first walkthrough saw Adam stroll through the front door into a secured area with his guns blazing, shooting basically anyone insight. Take two, this time it was something a little different. Using his social talents, Adam is able to convince an old friend within the police station to give him free access to the secured area.  This involved progressing through a dialogue tree making sure that the correct triggers were achieved. The last play through was all about stealth. We were shown multiple entry locations to the police station, with options including the roof and the sewers, though in the end we went with the fancy looking side door on the fire escape. Unfortunately, with this being the future, the door was protected with some sort of crazy security system; luckily for us Adam has several cool hacking talents at his disposal. The developers briefly showed us how the hacking mini-game worked, but there is no way I would be able to explain on here what the fuck happened. Just let it be known that there is a hacking mini-game. Once inside you needed to avoid security cameras and officers of the law - taking precautions by sneaking around corners, taking advantage of the cover system, or using good old fashioned vents will help you stay clear of some of these obstacles.

So with having seen just a few ways to tackle the missions, it does appear that there will be some replayability once you finish the game. Adding to that the developers advised that how you approach the levels will have an effect on the way the rest of the missions and story play out. They didn’t however give us a solid figure on how many multiple endings there would be for the game.

From what I’ve seen so far this is shaping up to be a very cool game, and you can sure as heck bet on seeing more coverage here on Australian Gamer for it. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is due for release next year on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
