What can I say? Its Pokemon, it will sell like hot cakes (have you ever seen hot cakes sell really well???!) simply because of a yellow rodent that can shoot electricity out of its bottom for ten seasons straight!
This game can be summed up in two words: Bare bones. You would think after four iterations of the same game type Nintendo could expand and innovate just like it does with its consoles. You were wrong! This was an obvious quick cash cow that will please owners of a Wii and Pokemon Diamond/Pearl.
The latest outfit being worn during Mardi Gras
Don’t own a DS and Pokemon Diamond/Pearl? Then DON’T buy this game. It’s simple, if you ain’t got the goods then you ain’t gonna get the [very limited] potential this game has to offer. Fortunately I had been playing the Pearl version and the Misses has been bashing it out on the Diamond copy well before this got to me. Without either of those games you are stuck with an assortment of boring non-legendary Pokemon that are useless for online play.

This game will mark Australia’s 2nd Nintendo made Wii game game sporting WiFi battles. That is its best feature. Period. Sure you get to take turns shooting your icebeams, dragon rages, special rends and roars of time but you can do all that in it’s 2 dimensional glory on the DS. Voice communication is lacking (Nintendo make me a friggin Wiimic!) however the ability to have random WiFi battles is a welcoming change. Friend codes are a must, if you want to versus a fellow Pokemaniac, which leads me to believe most WiFi titles for the Wii will require another 16 digit code. The good/bad thing about online Battle Rev is the inability to take some ‘rare’ Pokes for a spin. And by rare I mean legendary, and by legendary I mean shiny legendary, and by shiny legendary I mean illegitimate internet trades. Nintendo have built a stats checker in this game that will ensure what you intend to take into battle, is feasibly obtainable in the offline DS game. Which is a fair measure that you otherwise expect from a DS game that has run rampid with “haxxors” and “fakes”.
So apart from the 3D battles and online play what does Battle Rev have to offer. Wait for it….. Trainer costumes! So ingenious! Just what every Pokemon trainer wants, more customisables for the 6 character types (3 boys and 3 girls). Then what else you ask. Well not a lot. No RPG side quest, no special events preloaded (they should release Darkrai on Christmas day in this game!) and no battle saves options. Again I say it; Bare bones.
I have to compliment the ease in uploading your pokemon onto the Wii. You don’t need to choose the 6 Pokemon you want the game can search through Bebe’s box (no not that box you dirty mofo). Its fast, quick and painless much like highschool sex.
Pikachu, I choose YOU!
It’s hard to recommend a game that depends so heavily on its DS counterpart to really enjoy. If you’re a hardcore Pokemaniac, from way back, enjoyment is to be had in Battle Rev. To be absolutely honest I played this game for the better half of a week and have not touched it since. This game won’t stand the test of time but will be a great PR tool for Nintendo the next time they come round and do their Shopping mall connection tours.
