Split/Second: Velocity
Review from Starks - Monday, 12 July 2010 @ 1:40pm

Genre: Racing Action
Release: 20 May 2010
Developer: Black Rock Studio
This is, the greatest song in the wor-hurld! This is most definately not a tribute!
Racing round town
The cars go fast!
I turn the corner
A fly goes splat!
All over my windshield,
All over my windshield!
Heaps of action
The tracks are rad!
This game is awesome
It’s sending me mad!
*Insert insanely awesome guitar solo, approximately 13 and a half seconds*
I drive and I drive and the game is just so quick
I cruise down a course and the graphics are schmick
Michael Bay ruined Transformers he is such a dick
Yet this type of game is exactly what he’d pick
For his kids!
This song has no chorus
It’s just too quick for you!
But here’s some cool explosions
Just like Split/Second has for you!
So fast, so awesomely fast
Too many explosions to count!
It all makes awesome TV sense
How could you ever doubt?!
This racing game is like an atomic bomb
Set in a TV style show
And when you get to the end of it
You’ll give it another go!!
Oh yeah!
It’s so intense and so awesome
You have to play it twice
Cause it kicks the shit outta SEGA Rally
And the graphics are really nice
I cannot say much more
This game is not a bore
When you get down to the base
All you want to do is race!
All you want to do is RACE!
RACE RACE RACE RACE RACE!
Yeah!
*Cue thunderous applause for what are the greatest lyrics the world has ever seen*
Summary
A game in the same vein as Burnout, it offers enough that is different in the way of environmental interaction and storyline that it could be considered an improvement. The premise follows that you are involved in a reality TV show called Split/Second, in which drivers compete over a season. The ability to use 'Power Plays' and generate explosions to throw off your opponents in game is really the ace up the sleeve of this game. It's a pretty good ace, and landing a plane on your opponents never grows old, but it is really all that differentiates it from other arcade racers in the market. It's a fairly simple game but successfully generates a lot of enjoyment. It isn't groundbreaking, it doesn't try to blow you off your feet, but it does enough to be worth a few Saturday's worth of fun. It's the kind of mindless game you come home to after a shitty day at work, throw it in the 360 then have a few beers to wind down on. Treat it for what it is and I can safely say it is a worthwhile investment.
Pros
Fantastic action orientated racing, with some of the best environmental interactions I've played on in a while. Awesome 'speed sense' makes you feel like you're driving at a million miles an hour. The graphics are great.
Cons
Sound track is painful to the ears. The entire game, after you've been playing for a while, begins to play like a Michael Bay movie. The cars themselves don't offer a lot of driving variety, at least not in my opinion.

there is multiplayer both online and split screen
but how well it will go could remain to be seen
perhaps just a few could give it a run?
Mine's PS3, and I'll smash everyone!
