MotorStorm And MotorCalm

An 19th Century Story

By Brett

The Dashing Stranger

It is a truth universally acknowleged that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must also be in want of a good rally game.

However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood, the truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding developers that he is considered as the rightful property of some or other of their productions.

"My Dear Mr. Matt," said his lady to him one day "have you heard that they have made a sequel to Motorstorm at last?"

Mr Matt replied that he had not.

"But it is," returned she; "only for Playstation 3, and Mr Yug has told me all about it."

Mr Matt made no answer.

"Do not you want to know who has been sent the review code?" cried his wife impatiently.

"You want to tell me, and I have no objection to hearing it."

This was invitation enough.

"Why, my dear, you must know, Mr Yug says that the title has been taken by a young man of large fortune, and he is to take possession of the review by the end of the week."

"What is his name?"

"Mr Brett."

"And is his design on settling on a positive view of this title?"

"Design! Nonsense, how can you talk so! But it is very likely that he will fall in love with it."

Mr Cav And Mr Jae Discuss Culture And Cheddar

Mr Brett's property consisted almost entirely in an estate of two thousand a year and a single PS3 controller dressed in fanciful black. His recent courtship of a SEGA Rally Arcade Machine Circa 1994 remained him unfulfilled, and although elated by his rank of reviewer, it did not render him supercilious; rather contrary he was all attention to other rally games.

In the drawing room of Mr Brett's estate, he enjoyed a sniffer of brandy with his confidants Mr Cav and Mr Jae

"Desire," observed Mr Cav, who piqued himself upon the solidarity of his reflections, "is a very common feeling, I believe, that human nature is particularly prone to. I have desire for the action of WWF, but that is not to say that desire must always be used synonimously with shame or embarressment."

"Also," continued Mr Jae, who kept a pack of foxhounds in his drawing room, each named after various cheeses "it is a pleasure to be here not just as a token Asian, but also as token comic relief."

"Say what you will about the game, Mr Brett" indelicately interupted Mr Cav "but understand that pride and vanity are simply grades in self evaluation."

Infinity Is Infinitesimal

Within a short walk of Mr Brett's estate lived a family with whom all were particularly knowledgable. Sir Starks and Master Phil discussed the intimacies of the potential Motorstorm review, whence Miss Anna boldly interupted their masculine banter.

"A human situation leads itself to infinite interpretations, since the situation and observer are infinite" was Miss Anna's cultured observation, one which by definition was infinitely incorrect.

"If I know our Mr Brett," countered Master Phil "he will perform the unthinkable, and rather than review the game, he will create an elaborate scenario of fantasy, making no sense to anyone but himself"

"The charm of conversation often depends not upon the topic," said Sir Starks "but on the conversation itself."

Humour Is Not For An Uncultivated Mind

Mr Samo's bold steed reared as he rode the cobblestone path to Lord AJ's abode. The plentiful work that Lord AJ had done to prepare for the visit was not lost on the observant Mr Samo, who wondered if one day he would also place all his waste together. Once inside by the fire in the study, they spoke jovially of the prospect of the Motorstorm review.

"I expect some sort of ridiculous premise, a gimick no less to hide a unprepared and unwordy review," explained Mr Samo, "But what will be the meaning of the emphatic exclaimation, sure to envelope too many pages of our site?"

"How many times can one visit the shallow well of absurd?" noted Lord AJ "does it not become tiresome for the reader to never actually get to the point of a review, or is this twisted joke now too far off canter to ever fall into a gracefull gallop?"

"Regardless," finished Mr Samo "We will meet at Mr Yug's tonight and Mr Brett will enrich us all with his thoughts."

The Review Arrives

That evening, the entire team and the small remains of Brett's readerbase gathered at Mr Yug's House Boat anxious to finally see Mr Brett and hear his thoughts on Motorstorm Pacific Rift. With so much build up they were hopefull of a substantial return on their investment of time and tally.

The evening passed off pleasantly for all of them, but as the timekeeper neared midnight, came a knock on the door, but rather than Mr Brett, there stood a messenger with a telegraph broken into just three sections.

Summary

If you're the sort of person into games like Motorstorm, then you'll be really happy with Pacific Rift. Everything about it is wonderfully polished and the title has a great sense of fun. There's nothing here to convert those who didn't enjoy the original, short of a decent multiplayer, but arcade racing fans will be impressed.

Pros

The addition of multiplayer and the new environments add a wedge of depth, but the action is still classic Motorstorm. The soundtrack is stronger than it's predecessor. Less graphical slowdown than the original and much improved load times.

Cons

Fan's of 1800's literature may not enjoy it, nor will non fans of the arcade racing genre There's still a limit to the replayability, eventually this will wear thin

"Oh Mr Brett" exclaimed Miss George "That wiley Cad has once again played us all like fiddles and not even written a review, I can only hope the commoners tear him to shreds in the forums!"
